GD441 Schedule

All In-Class Assignments are due by the end of class. Late In-Class Assignments will not be accepted for grading. All other assignments are due at the beginning of class (6pm) on the due date. Late Projects will receive an automatic 25% grade reduction. Students who miss the last day of class will not be permitted to reschedule their presentation and will receive an automatic zero (0) for this project.

Week 1

  • Syllabus overview, class expectations
  • Read online article What Every Business Needs
  • In-Class Assignment #1; due by end of class
  • Homework #1 assigned
  • Read pages 1-14, 20-24 and 28-45 in Creating the Perfect Design Brief for class discussion next week

Week 2

  • Homework #1 Due: Class critique of general project ideas. Turn in homework after critique.
  • 1-1 conversation with students about their Design Inventory and questionnaire from Week 1 and assigned reading pages.
  • Homework #2 assigned.
  • Read about "Work for Hire" and "Kill Fees" in the Graphic Artist Guild Handbook - pages 31-34, 52, 53-54 (end after "Speculation") - for class discussion next week.

Week 3

  • Homework #2 Due: Turn in at beginning of class. 1-1 critiques.
  • In-Class Assignment #3 due by the end of class.
  • Homework #3 assigned.
  • Begin working on Written Design Brief. Have a rough draft ready for 1-1 discussion with instructor next week.
  • Read about "Copyright", "Trademarks" and "Trade Dress " in the Graphic Artist Guild Handbook; pages 21-28, 38-40 - for class discussion next week.

Week 4

Week 5

  • Midterm Process Book DUE for grading at the beginning of class
  • Class discussion on professional practices, ethics in design and the use of a photographer.
  • Reading Assignment TBD (to be determined)
  • Homework #4 Assigned

Week 6

  • Midterm Exam!!! Click HERE for sample questions.
  • Homework #4 Due at the beginning of class.
  • Decide what format your Digital Presentation will be in
    and do In-Class Assignment #4.
  • Homework #5 Assigned

Week 7

  • Homework #5 Due at the beginning of class.
  • First draft of digital presentation due; 1-1 critiques with instructor
  • Work day - Continue working on Final Process Book and Presentation

Week 8

  • 2nd draft of presentation due; 1-1 critiques with instructor
  • Work day - Continue working on Final Process Book and Presentation

Week 9

  • Final Process Book DUE at the beginning of class
  • Work day - Continue working on Digital Presentation
  • 1-1 critiques of digital presentation, on an as-needed basis

Week 10

  • Digital Presentation of Design Brief - all students
  • Class dismissed
